Our Learning This Week...
Hello and Happy June : ) Here's a look at our week!

This week in ELAL we have been learning about non-fiction texts. The students learned about the difference between fiction books and non-fiction books. They worked in groups to match various text features (e.g. maps, glossary, table of contents, captions, bold print, diagrams, labels) to the correct label and then worked with a partner to find examples of each text feature in a book.
In math, students continued to learn about geometry (2D and 3D shapes). They learned the names of the shapes and also went on a shape hunt looking for examples of each kind in the classroom or outside. Finally, they learned how to sort 2D shapes based on various criteria and they began learning how to draw some 3D shapes.
In science, students learned about various plants and animals around the world and the different environments that they live in. Students discussed why animals live in certain environments and not others. They learned that all animals are different and need different things so they need environments that provide those things.
We also visited the baby ducklings this week and even got to pet them. Then, on Friday, they baby ducks visited us! It was fun to watch them trying to swim in their water dish!

In gym, students have had lots of fun learning to play Four Square! Ask your child how to play!

Google Classroom is available for students to access. Below are instructions for logging in.
Please note that the use of activities in our Google Classroom is optional. These are not assigned, but are offered as extra activities that can support some of the learning we are doing in class. We will also be using the websites during class throughout the year at different times. If you have trouble logging in or questions about the classroom, let me know. If you need your child's email or password information let me know. I can resend it.

Login Instructions: Logging in the first time...
1. Go to classroom.google.com
2. Click Go to Classroom
3. Enter the email address for your Classroom account. (I will email this to you).
4. Click Next.
5. Enter your password. (Everyone's password is: 12345678)
6. Click Next.
7. If there is a welcome message, review it.
8. Click Accept.
9. If you're using a Google Workspace, click I'm a Student.
10. Click Get Started.
