What a fun and busy week we’ve had in our classroom! In Language Arts , students continued developing their understanding of long vowel sounds, with a focus on the silent e spelling pattern. This week, we explored the long o sound by building words and playing interactive games on the smartboard. Students practiced listening carefully to distinguish between long o and short o sounds, strengthening both their phonics and spelling skills in an engaging, hands-on way. In Math , our focus was on understanding the difference between length and width . Students learned and practiced using comparative vocabulary such as wide, wider, widest and narrow, narrower, narrowest to describe objects. They also continued developing their measurement skills by comparing the length and width of different items. Building on previous learning, students began measuring using a single non-standard unit (such as a paperclip), which required more precision and attention than using multiple unit...

It has been another busy and exciting week of learning in our classroom! In language arts this week, students began learning about long vowel sounds . Our focus was on the long a sound with the silent e spelling pattern at the end of a word. Students watched a short video that introduced the Nessy strategy for recognizing and reading long vowel sounds. This helped them understand how the silent e works to make the vowel say its name. After discussing the pattern together, students practiced building and reading words using their moveable alphabets . They created words with the long a, silent e pattern such as cake, bake, make, and mate . Students enjoyed manipulating the letters to see how changing the first sound created a whole new word while keeping the same spelling pattern. This activity helped strengthen their phonics knowledge while also building their confidence as readers and writers. Video:  Nessy Strategy Silent E In math, students began learning about meas...

Students were engaged in a variety of learning activities across subject areas and continued to build their skills in reading, math, science, and physical education. Here is a look at some of the learning that took place this week. In literacy this week, students continued developing their phonics and reading skills by focusing on the / wh/, /ph/, and /ng/ sound patterns. We practiced identifying these sounds in words, reading them in sentences, and listening for them when reading aloud.  Students explored examples such as / wh/ in when and whale , / ph/ in phone and elephant , and / ng/ in sing and long . Through reading activities, word work, and class discussions, students practiced recognizing these patterns and applying them while decoding new words. Strengthening phonics knowledge helps students become more confident and fluent readers. In math, students worked on comparing unit fractions . ...
