Here's a look at our week : )  --------------------------------------------------- In language arts, students began learning how to do a retelling using loose parts. They sat in a circle and built their setting using a variety of small items to be the characters, buildings, plants, animals, and other objects in the story. Then we took turns retelling a different part of the story. Today we did a retelling of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Students were guided to do their retelling as if they were actually telling the story and to use words and phrases from the book to make their retelling more interesting. For example, when talking about the giant wanting to eat Jack they included the 'Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman!" line in their retelling. Ms. V even tried to used some funny voices to be the different characters.    In math, we continued talking about patterns. Students learned about pattern cycles in our environment such as the seasons, day/n...

Hello! Hope you all had a lovely week. Here's a peek at our week : )  ------------------------------------------------- In language arts, students have been learning about the parts of speech. They learned what a noun, a verb and an adjective is. Students participated in a classroom "scoot" (scavenger hunt) in which they had to look for words hidden in the classroom and then decide what part of speech each word belonged to.      In math, the students have been exploring patterns. They have learned that a pattern is something that repeats. Patterns also have a core and in the core are terms or elements. Patterns can be expressed or labelled using AB, ABC, ABCD, ABB etc. Students looked for patterns in the classroom and created patterns using actions, pictures and manipulatives.       Students have also continued to learn about fractions. Students know that a fraction represents a part of a whole or a part of a set . Students have learned to ...

Hello! Happy Friday : ) I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Here's what we have been up to. -------------------------------------- In language arts we are learning about the parts and elements of stories. Students listened to, read and discussed several stories identifying the various story elements (character, setting, events, problem and solution). After reading and retelling each story the students then worked on sequencing and organizing the various elements into the proper part of the story (i.e. beginning, middle or end).   In math, students began a new unit on patterns and sorting. They began by learning about the different attributes of objects such as size, shape and colour. Then they practiced sorting various objects using different criteria or characteristics.  In social, students began presenting their traditions to their classmates. We learned about holiday celebrations, movie night, special cultural clothing tradition and more!   Students also began to lea...
