Our Learning This Week...

Happy Friday! Here's a look at what we have been up to : )

----------------------------------------

In language arts we learned about the /ch/ and /sh/ sounds and worked on building words using a Word Ladder in which only one letter in each word is changed to make the next word.

In math, we started learning about composing and decomposing numbers. Students learned that numbers can be broken down into smaller numbers to show that quantity in multiple ways. This is an important concept to help students when they begin to learn about addition and subtraction. The students were given a problem in which they had to show how many ways a boy could share 7 cookies with two friends. They worked in groups to come up with the different combinations and wrote them down.

In Social we did some work around the book "Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox". In this book the character describes the traits of different animals and how she feels like those animals at different times. We discussed the four animals of the Medicine Wheel and some of their traits. The students then picked the one that they thought was the most like them. They wrote about why they picked that animal and drew a picture of it to go with their writing.

In gym students have had fun learning how to use the parachute to play a variety of games. Using the parachute involves teamwork, coordination and good listening skills. The students have learned to make a mushroom/umbrella, play Switch, Cat & Mouse and more.

On Friday, we got together with our Buddies and went on the computers to play a fun and easy coding game. The students logged into their Google Classroom and learned how to play the game Rodocodo. This is available in our Google Classroom for students to play at home as well.
