Hello! Here's a peek at our week!

In language arts we continued to work on learning different letter sounds to assist us in our reading. This week we learned the /ck/ and /sh/ digraph sounds. Students made words and completed various activities listening for the /sh/ and /ck/ sounds. 








In math, we have finished up our stations on numbers to 100 and a review of graphing. We also learned about even and odd numbers and how to know if a number is either even or odd. The students listened to the story Even Steven & Odd Todd and then played a game to further their understanding. 




In social we finished learning about a First Nations community and the roles of men, women and children. The students then represented their learning in their visual journals.




In science, students finished a winter sorting activity. They had to sort pictures into either people, plants, animals or weather to show what happens to each when it gets cold. 





In gym, we finished up our unit on floor hockey. The students ended the unit with some centres activities in which they practiced shooting, passing and dribbling the puck. Then we had some relay races and played a game called "Shoot It" in which they had to try to shoot as many pucks into the other teams nets as possible.

Please note that the use of activities in our Google Classroom is optional. These are not assigned, but are offered as optional activities that can support some of the learning we are doing in class. We will also be using the websites during class throughout the year at different times. If you have trouble logging in or questions about the classroom, let me know. Your child's email and password were sent home this past Monday.

Login Instructions: Logging in the first time...

1. Go to classroom.google.com

2. Click Go to Classroom

3. Enter the email address for your Classroom account. (I will email this to you).

4. Click Next.

5. Enter your password. (Everyone's password is: 12345678)

6. Click Next.

7. If there is a welcome message, review it.

8. Click Accept.

9. If you're using a Google Workspace, click I'm a Student.

10. Click Get Started.

Hello Families! As this was a short week there is no blog post, but I did want to let you know that our Google Classroom is now available for students to access. Below are instructions for how to login the first time.  Please note that the use of activities in our Google Classroom is optional. These are not assigned, but are offered as optional activities that can support some of the learning we are doing in class. Our Learning this Week...

Hello Families! We have finished our first week of school. Take a look below for a sneak peek at what we've been up to : )  ----------------- This week we have spent time getting to know each other and becoming familiar with the routines of the classroom. The students have adjusted well to full days and are really enjoying participating in morning and lunch recess! We have also read a number of books about treating others the way we want to be treated and making good choices. We read "Office Buckle and Gloria" and "Do Unto Otters" to learn about the importance of rules, safety and kindness. Students sorted various actions into good choices and poor choices and pasted them into a chart.    We also began reading books by Dr. Suess and discussing rhyme. The students listened for rhyming words in stories, played a variety of rhyming games and completed some rhyming sheets.       In math we have been working on reviewing numbers to 10 and 20 and also talking abo...

Our Learning This Week...

Hello and Happy Friday : )  I hope you had a lovely week. Here is what we have been up to! -------------------------------------- In reading we have been focusing on long vowels and silent /e/. Students have continued to build words that contain the long e sound looking or the vcv (vowel consonant vowel) pattern in words (e.g. ike, ane, ube etc.) to determine if the vowel makes a long or short sound. Students completed a number of word ladders for words that contain this pattern, In math students explored using a number line to count back to subtract and played a fun math game that helped them practice this skill.  In science students began learning about energy. They discussed what energy is and how energy is expressed through movement. Students discovered that movement includes speed, direction, pathways and levels (i.e. high, medium, low).  In social they have been learning about some of the first people to settle in what is today Calgary.
