Our Learning This Week...

Brrr! It's a chilly one! We had such a fabulous time at the Winter Concert last night. Thanks to all the students and families that came out to perform and show our holiday/winter spirit! This week in ELAL students learned about plural nouns. Students in grade one learned that when you have more than one of an object you add /-s/ to make it plural-- i.e. cat --> cats. The grade twos learned that in some cases, we add an /-es/ instead of an /-s/ when making a word plural. For example, if a word ends with: sh, ch, s, z  or x. Students have also continued to work on developing their writing skills. This week we read the story, 'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!' In this story the main character describes the worst day that he has ever had. After listening to the story the students brainstormed ideas for their most terrible day. Our Learning This Week...

Hello! Here' a peek at our week.... In ELAL, students listened to the story ' The Worst Best Friend '. Then we talked about the qualities of a good friend.  Students worked through the writing process again focusing on brainstorming and planning. After filling in a graphic organizer with their ideas they used their plan to write several sentences about what makes a good friend. Lastly, they checked their work for  capitals, periods and spaces. In math, students continued their exploration of addition and subtraction. They learned how to use a numberline to solve basic facts questions.  (pic to come) Students also learned about fact families and how addition and subtraction equations are related to each other.  In science, students learned about natural and processed (man-made) materials. They sorted objects using various criteria including whether an object was made from natural or processed materials. In social, we began to investigate the regions of Canada begin...
