Our Learning This Week...

Hello Families! It's been another busy and fun week! Take a look at what we have been up to! ----------------------------------- In reading, students were introduced to our sound wall. A sound wall is a bulletin board that shows the different letter sounds we have learned. Each letter has an image to help students remember the sound and a picture of how our mouth should look when we make that sound. This helps students to be more accurate when saying the sounds and is a resource for students to help them sound out words in their reading and writing. In writing, we have been working on fixing sentences. Students continue to develop their skills to identify the important parts of sentences-- i.e. capital letter, spaces and periods. Students are working on writing 1-3 sentences in their journals on various topics.                           In math, we have begun to learn about numbers to 100. Students were introduced to the 1...

Hello! Happiest of Fridays, Everyone : ) I hope you had a lovely week and have enjoyed the last bit of warm weather we will be having for awhile! It's about to get colder. Please ensure that your child has proper shoes and clothes for the colder weather. Also, please ensure that your child has proper indoor (sneakers) and outdoor (boots) footwear going forward. Students are required to change their shoes to help keep our school clean and optimal for learning. Thank you! ---------------------------------------- This week we reviewed the letters /n/ and /o/. As before, students listened for the target sounds in stories, completed making words activities and activiity sheets.  We also began to talk about syllables. Students watched a video explaining what syllables are (the beats in a word) and completed some games identifying the number of syllables in different words.                     This week we also began to learn about and pra...

Hello Families! I hope you all had a lovely week. We have been learning about so many different things this week! Take a peek : )  ------------------------------------------------------ In Language arts we learned about poetry and created an acrostic poem for Thanksgiving. The students listened to stories about giving and being thankful and even a fun one about some kids saving turkeys from becoming dinner! We talked about how important it is to be thankful for what we have and also that it's more important to give to others than to get things. The students brainstormed things that they are thankful for to include in their poems.      Our Fall Walk was a great success! The weather was great and the students saw a lot of signs of fall. We took pictures of various insects, animals, leaves and more that we saw on the way.       In art we created some fun, fall leaves using an art technique called pointilism. Pointilism uses dots of color to create pi...

Take a peek at what we have been up to this week!  -------------------------------- In language arts we have continued learning about the lowercase letters and sounds they make. We also began doing our 'making words' activities using our moveable alphabet. We began by making words using the sounds we have learned for /s/, /a/, /t/, /m/, /p/ and /f/. Students listen to the sounds, repeat them and then build the word using their letters. Then we blend the sounds to read the word. In math, we started a new math routine called "Imposter Sets". The students look at and talk about a variety of objects. We describe each object and then the students have to pick the one that they think doesn't belong or is the 'imposter'. They must explain why it is the imposter. There can be many possible imposters. Students are learning to look for similarities and differences (visual discrimination) and to explain their reasoning (i.e. defend their choice). This is important ...
