Our Learning this Week....

 Here's a sneak peek at our week : )  --------------------------------------------------- This week we have been busy working in our reading groups practicing our sounds, playing games, reviewing high frequency words and decoding (sounding out) simple stories.  We have also learned about the concepts of singular and plural nouns. Students know that singular means one and plural means more than one. We watched a video explaining the meaning of both and what happens to the spelling of a word when there is more than one (e.g. cat ---> cats) Students also learned that sometimes when we add an /s/ to the end of a word it can sound like /s/ or it can sound like /z/. The /s/ is used for both sounds (e.g. bugs, dogs vs. cats, bats). This can make spelling these words tricky as it sounds like a /z/ but it's actually an /s/.  We practiced listening for and sorting pictures based on the sound of the /s/. In writing, we have been working on fixing sentences and rewriting them...

Hello & Happy Friday! Here's a look at our week : )  --------------------------------------- REMINDER : Parent-Teacher Conferences are next Thursday (4:00-7:30pm) and Friday (8:00am-12:30pm). Please log into your My CBE Account to book a time to meet with me and discuss your child's progress. ---------------------------------------- This week the students reviewed the sounds for the letters: h and k . So far we have reviewed the letter sounds for: a, t, s, i, m, p, b, n, d, o, u, c, f, and g . Each day we review these letters and work on building words using the letter sounds we know. We also introduced some new high frequency words-- to, do, me, be.  The students practice these words orally as a group and through games and other activities.  This week we also began working in our Guided Reading Groups. The students read in a small group with an adult reviewing all the sounds we have learned, any high frequency words we have learned and read books together sounding o...
