This Week in Room 21...

Happy Friday! It was an exciting and successful week of swimming in Room 21! The kids had a great time participating in their swim lessons and developed their skill and confidence as swimmers : )  I want to thank all the parent volunteers as well for their help and support getting kids in and out of the pool and onto the bus on time without losing any belongings! No easy feat so thank you!

As you all know, I was away for most of the week sick, but was lucky to get to see the kids swim one day. As such, I do not have many pictures to show of the kids learning so it will be mostly text this time around.

In math, students in Gr. 2 worked on learning the traditional method for sovlving two-digit subtraction problems with and without regrouping. Students in Gr. 1 applied their skills in solving subtraction problems (using numbers to 20) to a variety of math challenges. They also completed the February calendar and answered questions about it.

On Wednesday, students learned about Pink Shirt Day and how to stand up to bullying. They also learned what bullying is and what it is not and watched a video explaining how Pink Shirt Day began. They completed a variety of activities to help them demonstrate their learning.

In Science, students continued to learn about sound and how it behaves. We learned what an echo is and why it happens (sounds bounce off of hard surfaces, but are absorbed by soft surfaces). Students also experimented with different materials to see which ones absorb sounds and which ones don't.

Here are some pics of our time swimming. Enjoy : )

Important Information & Reminders:

  • Library Day is on Wednesday. If your child misses a Library Day we will try to send them on a different day, however, it will not always be possible to do so. Most times they can simply wait for the following Library Day.
  • Google Classroom - Our Google Classroom is up and running. Students can log in at school and at home and click on the various links to practice typing, math skills, reading and even do an art activity (Art Hub) or some exercise (Cosmic Yoga). Your child can go to: classroom.google.com, click on the waffle (nine dots in upper righthand corner of screen), select the Google Classroom icon and log in from there. They have already logged in at school so they will just need to put in their student email address (available in PowerSchool/My CBE Account) and their password (eg. 12345678). It's that simple. If you require assistance logging in the first time, please let me know.
  • RAZ-Kids - students brought home a sheet with information explaining how to access their online RAZ-Kids account. This is a levelled reading program that students can use to practice reading at home with their parents. Once logged in students can listen to the story, practice reading the story (with adult support if needed) and then take a short quiz to assess their comprehension of what they have read. This is a wonderful compliment to our Home Reading program. If you did not receive your child's login information please email me. Thanks and happy reading!
  • Healthy Hunger is up and running. Below are the upcoming fun lunch dates. To order please go to the Healthy Hunger website.
